The New Teacher Project has just released a report on the U.S. Department of Education’s Race to the Top competitive reform funding bonanza. And despite the optimism around here, Colorado isn’t looking too good.
Consider this map:

Colorado is rated only “somewhat competitive. The reason? According to TNTP, our fair state “minimally meets or does not meet” R2T criteria in two key areas: “data to support instruction” and “great teachers and leaders.”We partially meet criteria on standards and assessments, and turning around struggling schools.
Ouch.
According to the map above (and remember, this is an outside organization’s guesswork, and nothing more) 15 states are better positioned than Colorado to win big grants.
Time will tell.
