Colbert interviews the bribe king

Posted by Dec 2nd, 2008.

I’ve made no secret of my disdain for the scheme to pay kids for good grades. My parents never paid me (and I never got good grades…hmm…). But I’m open to changing my mind. Here’s the idea’s number one proponent, Roland Fryer, talking with Stephen Colbert. And Fryer is one funny man. (Hat tip to Alexander Russo at This Week in Education)

I thought it was great! It is evident Fryer is sharp and passionate about education. I like his approach – if this innovation doesn’t work, he’ll move on to the next one. May be the next one is uBoost, a performance-based rewards and recognition platform that incentizes students with points (not cash) that can be redeemed for rewards or donated to charities. The online uBoost environment integrates recognition, using competition as another way to motivate students.
